The Vanduul are organized in independently operating Vanduul Clans with a martial meritocracy hierarchy. Members of a clan can be recognized by the a insignia displayed on armor and vehicles.
Each Vanduul serves a clan in a fleet, and they rarely interact with outsiders, even if they are of the same species: there is little to no communication between the different traveling clans. Each fleet operates separately, according to its own rules, laws and customs, as decreed by the head of the clan. That is why it was impossible to establish peaceful diplomatic relations with the Vanduuls.[source?]
Vanduul clans also manufacturer and maintain their own vehicles, weapons and armor.
