A star system, often confused with the planetary system (itself confused with the solar system), is the arrangement and the type of star that makes up the latter. In the vast majority of visitable cases, the star system is simple, which means that it only consists of a star around which orbits its system of planets.
Types of star systems[]
- Simple stellar system (Single star): A simple system consists only of a star and its system of planets.
- Binary star system (Binary star): A binary system is an arrangement of two stars orbiting around a common center of gravity. Planetary systems orbiting this double star are rare, as it is difficult for them to maintain a stable orbit, and the latter are often hardly habitable.
- Multiple star system (Multiple star): A multiple system has a procession of more than two stars, with centers of gravity taking various forms. Thus, there can be a binary star orbiting around a larger single star, thus making a ternary system; but it is possible to see more complex systems appear: quaternary, quintuple, sextuples, septuples, and so on.

Other[]
It is possible that the star system is nonexistent, due to the outright absence of a star. See the special cases in the "Others" section on this page for more information.
List of planetary systems[]
This list includes Star systems that are visible on the ARK Starmap, and also those that have been mentioned throughout lore or in other official resources.
