The F8A Lightning is a small 1-person heavy fighter from Anvil Aerospace. The ship will be available to play in Squadron 42 with no announced plans to be implemented in the Persistent Universe as a player owned ship. The F8A is the military variant of the F8 Lightning variants and has six weapon hardpoints, one turret mount and two missile racks. Two civilian variants have been made available to concierge backers, the F8C Lightning and the F8C Lightning Executive-Edition, but both will only be available within the game after the release of Squadron 42.

Designed as the next generation super space superiority fighter, particulary with fighting the Vanduul in mind, it is a more nimble, more heavily armed fighter craft than its F7 predecessor. Discarding the second turret for more fixed weaponry, the Lightning is designed to take out any target that is in front of it - and it's easy to get a target in front of it.
