Cassandra’s Tears is an account of adventures of UEE pilot Cal Mason. According to Dave Haddock "these stories are fictionalized accounts of actual people."[1]

Dramatis Personæ

Important Characters

Cal Mason (main character)

Four weeks… four long weeks since Cal Mason rescued the kidnapped Xi’An diplomat and he was just getting cleared from Medical. He had that itch, that itch that came from being grounded too long. Pilots always got it. Almost like they didn’t trust their limbs to carry them, they needed to move through this universe with wings and thrusters, not arms and legs.

Penny

Penny looked tired but chipper as always. If there was something in this universe that could bring her mood down, Cal hadn’t seen it.

She loosened the band to unleash her flame-red hair and turned.

Admiral Showalter "Grandpa"

The admiral, nicknamed Grandpa by those with a death wish, was a lifelong soldier. Survivor of multiple ground campaigns, hundreds of sorties, and more-than-likely dozens of covert ops, he had his career etched into his very features. His narrow eyes took in everything but never gave up anything.

Mr Black Talon

Two Cestus pilots were tangling with a Raider. Its main wing looked like it was dipped in black warpaint. While he’d never seen Vanduul markings like that, it didn’t matter.

–Cassandra’s Tears: Issue #2

Cal looked down just in time to see the Vanduul Raider, Mr Black Talon, dance-fire his mod-thrusters in a ridiculous combination to weave him around the combined firepower of Poll and the other pilot. He sliced Poll’s ship in half with his wing and unleashed an aimed burst at the other Cestus. The energy bursts whittled the shield down enough for a rocket to connect. Cal had never seen a move like that. Whoever this pilot was, he was serious.

Other Characters

Corporal Whitacre

“Talk to me, Corporal.” Showalter said, his expression barely moving. Corporal Whitacre studied his SIG-INT scanners.

Flinch

Finch, the weapons officer, was locked on his scanners, coordinating the massive amount of firepower.

Poll

Poll was a pilot from the "Gemini". He was only mentioned in issue #2, as he was also shot down by Mr Black Talon in this issue, most likely to give the readers a feeling of how dangerous Mr Black Talon is. Cal mention Poll as being a slick pilot, and that the only outcome for the vanduul raider (Mr Black Talon), being chased by Poll and his wingman (in two Cestus), is death.
